Troubled actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers was pictured stumbling on a London pavement with a bottle of opened vodka in his hand. The handsome actor has long admitted his drinking problem. His own mother had huge battles with alcohol which lead Jonathan to open up in an interview. He said that his mother basically drank away all of the dole money and that he had to steal for food. As alcoholism has the habit of doing; it trickles down the familial bloodlines like aortic valves. He captured the portrayal of Elvis so well; the troubled twin who had lost his brother in the womb. The troubled soul who is so incredibly talented yet this burgeoning power is at odds with one’s self esteem. Mickey O’Keeffe grew up dirt poor in Southern Ireland. He was raised partly by his grandparents and credits them with giving him some stability. He was also helped by a man in the sidelines who saw such potential in the young Mickey O’Keefe.
In 2011 he famously survived a grave suicide attempt. A source said at the time that
‘It was the opinion of the opinion of those present that he tried to take his life.’
The troubled actor, whose beloved mother died in 2007 owns homes in Monaco, Los Angeles and his native Dublin. In 2011 Rhys Meyers checked into a five star rehabilitation center in South Africa. This marked his fifth stint in rehab.
The fifth element:
In classical thought, the four elements earth, water, air, and fire frequently occur; sometimes including a fifth element or quintessence (after “quint” meaning “fifth“) called aether in ancient Greece and akasha in India.
But why is it taking him so many attempts to kick the booze? This is a disease that kicks at the victim, like a baby in the womb.
The actor dated Reena Hammer – whose father is the owner of the Harrods department store for seven years. He is now dating someone new. But where is she in these troubling moments? For it is very difficult to go out with someone who relies so heavily on alcoholic and whose entire personality changes after drinking. He is not by your side; he is at the liquor store; he is not working, he is drunk. The bills are not paid; he is drinking his money away…. He is not himself. He promises to stop drinking but he never does. When I was younger a lady used to stay at our house from time to time. After she left we would find opened bottles of vodka and gin under the guest bed. She drank first thing in the morning, and last thing at night, along with her ever present Marlboro light. But where am I going with this? Here is someone with immense talent, looks, great personality, kindness and sal;t of the earth type of character. He isn’t someone who has attended the Rugby or Eton of this world. He’s a working class bloke, from Ireland. Just like my ma, who is a working class lass, from Belfast. His acting record is outstanding. He won a Golden Globe award for his portrayal of Elvis in a U.S. t.v. series. He has starred in Bend It Like Beckham, Alexander, Velvet Goldmine. More recently he starred in the hit T.V. series ‘The Tudors.’ He is also something of a poster model; having worked for Hugo Boss and Versace. I know that phrase is reverberating in your ‘ How the mighty have fallen.’ But, listen, we don’t want to see him fail. What’s the use in schadenfreude when this Earth spins on such a fragile axis? We want him to be the biggest comeback kid in town.
In the past he has spoken candidly about his drinking escapades:
‘When I do drink I’m like Bambi.’
Let’s hope that he is able to conquer his demons. It is not easy loosing a parent; especially if it is the person who gave birth to you, your mother. Elvis was also very attached to his mother and it almost completely destroyed him when she died. Along with her died the twin brother that he never had . Grouping together these factors in loose Scientific fashion; Elvis, Elvis’s deceased twin brother, Elvis’s mother, Jonathan ‘s mother and thus the fifth element is Jonathan Rhys …..
